In life, throughout our proudest moments, accolades, and accomplishments there lies a common factor leading up to these events: hardship. Although hardships propel us towards success, the traumas we carry from them can feel unshakeable.

In life, throughout our proudest moments, accolades, and accomplishments there lies a common factor leading up to these events: hardship. Although hardships propel us towards success, the traumas we carry from them can feel unshakeable.

Within these images, I present the emotional states that came as a result of the adversities that have affected my mental health. Storing these emotions that originate from moments of discomfort, instead of having a release of these tensions can take a toll physically and emotionally. This work is my release of tension.

During the making of this series, I found myself recovering memories I subconsciously hid. After reassessing these recovered memories, I began to realize how deeply they have affected me and pushed me into becoming who I am today. The negative experiences have made the most memorable experiences feel all the better.  The duality displayed by personal success coming directly from negative incidents inspired this series.

My photographs represent important moments throughout my life layered over items, places, and people of equal emotional value to convey my emotions during those time periods. In doing so, I have shared the emotional states I go through in hopes of promoting vulnerability and conversations centering around mental health.

A Day At The Park

I went on a walk through the park the other day with my good friend, Peter Parker. The photos you see here were shot using a Mamiya C220. These images come from one of the first rolls I ever shot on the camera. I’m really enjoying the exploration of film photography, so I hope to show more medium format work in the very near future.

UCF's Palestinian Student Association 2021

Free Palestine

Annexation is the removal of citizens or forced acquisition of a foreign land by a government with aggressive force in which inflicts violence.

For over the last 70 years, Israel has oppressed Palestine for ownership of their land. The population of Israel is over 70% Jewish and the current political party in power is the Likud party. The Likud party is a Zionist party that aims to be a completely Independent Jewish state. Palestinians are being annexed by using claims of living on sovereign land.

While working directly with the members that formulate the UCF Palestinian Student Association, I was able to learn more about the struggles that each individual has encountered, whether or not they come from Palestinian backgrounds. While this occupation impacts Palestinians it also impacts those outside as well.

By presenting portraits of members that form this club, viewers will become better educated of the ongoing genocide Palestinians face & how to assist the lives of Palestinians & allies that reside away from war.

Florida

As a Florida resident all my life, I have been to many small businesses and cheap tourist attractions. As a child, these places were jaw-dropping, but as I’ve grown older so has these locations and my sense of reality.

These places are still amazing and the emotions they evoke are still important to my childhood and I. So, I have decided to share them with someone who’ll truly appreciate these locations.

Being the older brother of a five-year-old sister, I naturally see myself in her very often. These attractions are places of nostalgia to me, so taking my sister to these locations allowed me to relive my youth and introduce my sister to the Florida that I grew up in. Enjoy Bethany’s curiosity and understand the pure bliss of being a child in Florida.
